As our teacher Gina asked us, I had to send a couple of questions to a Teacher from Chile, well here are my answers from Vicente Vivas, English teacher at Pedro Montt School in Valparaíso.
First question: Describe your students at school. (this means social class, if they speak any other language besides spanish, where do they parents live, wich cities or towns) talk about your students in general.

I have a class of forty six children in a public school located in one of the most famous hills in Valparaiso in terms of tourism and University life. A brief description of this class would be that as this school is a “school for all” I can find different types of realities. For example; the majority of the students belong to a very low economic status thus, they develop and interact in very poor environments, reflecting this way they see and define “life” in the classroom. Nevertheless, despite the fact they are dealing with their poverty every day, they have the sense of improving their minds in order to opt for a better future, which is because of the opportunities the school present to them.
Analysis:
As we can see in the paragraph above, the reality of public schools in Chile is related to poverty and all the students has the same background. This is very different from USA, because here the students come from different parts of the world.
One thing that I think that is really interesting is the fact that students despite their low social class, they are willing to learn and work hard to do a better living. In addition to that, School presents the opportunity for that. However, it's so sad to see that their are keeping up with all this poor environment daily.
That's why I think that students sometimes don't feel as motivated as we would like they would be.
Second Question: Describe a learner you have in your class in detail.
A specific example of all of this would be the case of Ana Gonzalez; a girl who is always trying to keep out of the spotlight, in other words, she tries to keep a “low profile” just because she feels ashamed of her social condition. However, she is a very hard working girl, because she not only studies, but also works in her free time to help her mother with the house expenses. As far as I know she also has plans for her future, she wants to be a nurse someday and she sees in the school the necessary tools to fulfill that special dream with effort, perseverance and lots of work.
Analysis:
I think this is the common case of every poor student in Chile. They feel ashamed of their condition and they keep on being shy students. It's very common that students do very well at class, but they are not capable to say something in class because of their shame.
I believe that one of the most challenging thing for teacher is making their students more outgoing in terms of participating in the class.
